Types of Paper Bags

Paper bags are suitable for hundreds of uses, including the packaging of products such as flour, bread, animal feed, cement, etc. According to their filling system, paper bags can be classified into two main types…

- Open Top Paper Bags: Filling the bags is normally done by gravity or with manual procedures and is closed by sewing, gluing, or heat sealing.

- Paper Bags with Valves: The bag is typically filled using automatic bagging machinery. Once filled, the pressure of the bag’s contents automatically closes the charge spout. Some valves may also fold inward once the filling process is complete. If a more airtight seal is required, the valve can be supplied in heat-sealable plastic.

The product to be packaged and its leak-tightness requirements determine the type of paper bag, and in turn, the type of bag determines whether filling is done manually or automatically using bagging systems of varying sophistication.
